Lasers: Lighting the Way for the Future of Transportation
Mark your calendar for June 5-7, 2017 as ALAW returns this spring for its 24th annual event in Michigan. Join FMA and the Conference Co-Chairs, Craig Bratt, Fraunhofer CLA, Matt Sidlinger, Genesis Systems Group, and Justin Wolsker, General Motors Corp, at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth for a world-class industry event encompassing state-of-the-art laser processes for manufacturers, job shops, and suppliers.
As the use of lasers become more widespread, designers and product engineers alike need to gain familiarity with not only the properties, advantages and applicability of the laser welding process, but also with how to design components, assemblies and systems for successful laser welding. The choice of laser type, component material selection, weld joint design, component part preparation, and part fixturing are all critical to successful implementation of the laser welding process. These topics are presented along with numerous practical examples and case studies, with the intent of building the foundation for sound laser welding design and process implementation.
Who Should Attend
ALAW benefits manufacturing, production, product design, and research and development engineers; and anyone interested in using and/or developing flexible applications for laser material processing systems to reduce costs, improve quality, and provide flexible laser manufacturing. Owners, managers, and supervisors of fabrication job shops, as well as new end-users who want to learn more about the benefits of using laser technology for new or different applications to expand their businesses, should also attend.
What Attendees Are Saying
“Lasers are leading U.S. manufacturing out of the recession. Laser manufacturers and laser system integrators are experiencing 25% growth after the worst economic downturn in decades. ALAW will showcase a variety of laser materials processing technologies that are contributing to this growth over a range of industry sectors.”Stan Ream, ALAW 2011 Conference Co-Chair
EWI Laser Technology Leader
“As a fabricator, ALAW was invaluable to my company. In two days, we were able to get a good start on evaluating opportunities in laser tailored blank welding; body-in-white prototype cutting; laser-cut tubular products, and other prototype and pre-production fabricated metal products (automotive and other markets). We now have product offerings in each of these segments thanks in part to the information and networking provided at ALAW! Great and productive conference — thank you!”Gregg Simpson President, Ohio Laser, LLC
Monday, June 5 – 4-6 pm
We welcome you to join nLIGHT, a US laser manufacturing company, for live welding demonstrations featuring our next generation high-power CW fiber laser technology. In collaboration with Precitec’s WeldMaster, we will demonstrate 6000-series aluminum fillet welds without filler wire. Demonstrations will include seam tracking and quality control during laser welding of variable joint positions. The event will run from 4–6 pm on Monday, June 5th and will include food and refreshments. Join us afterwards at the Inn at St. John’s for a dinner reception.
Tuesday, June 6 — 5:45-9 pm
A consistent and loyal supporter of ALAW, TRUMPF Inc. once again opens its doors to our attendees for a spectacular open house and showcase of new laser products. The event runs from 5:45-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6 and includes food and refreshments.
